Youth Tour
Each year, Farmers Electric Cooperative sponsors two outstanding high school students to attend the Government-in-Action Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., hosted by the National Rural Cooperative Association. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors, who live in the 12 county area served by Farmers Electric Cooperative, have a chance to compete for this once in a lifetime experience.

This educational program allows our state's future leaders to join other teens from across the nation in open discussions with government officials and other professionals about the important events of the day. Students will learn how a cooperatively-structured business is distinguished from other forms of business enterprises, and how co-ops impact our lives on a daily basis.

The trip will include a visit to Capitol Hill where students will have the opportunity to meet their Congressman, as well as tours of the monuments, memorials and other historical sites. Some of the many places they will see include: Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, the National Cathedral, the Smithsonians. Students will also get to compete for the chance to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
